Pittsburgh Learning Pathways Summit

Friday, November 21, 2014 - 8:00am to 2:00pm
David L. Lawrence Convention Center 1000 Ft. Duquesne Blvd Pgh, PA 15222

Join fellow education experts for a summit on learning in Pittsburgh that aims to build an ecosystem of support and resources for educators.

Teachers, students, museum educators, librarians, artists, learning experts: Share your expertise at the Pittsburgh Learning Pathways Summit!

The event convenes experts in education and learning for an entertaining, fun, and free town hall-style gathering to help design learning pathways for Pittsburgh.

With the introduction of digital badges, Pittsburgh is building an ecosystem where educators can share resources more effectively and help youth connect in-school and out-of-school learning experiences to create new pathways of opportunity.

Summit participants will dive deep into key concepts and ideas behind learning pathways including:

  • Digital Badges: Online representations of knowledge, skills, and dispositions exhibited by a learner. For example, a student could earn a digital badge for demonstrating their knowledge of the Declaration of Independence or their mastery of digital photography skills.
  • Learning Pathways: Routes taken by learners to discover new ideas and pursue their interests (includes learning experiences in school, out-of-school & online). For example, a student might earn a badge through a digital literacy program at the library that connects to a lesson on www.codeacademy.com that can be exchanged for credit at their middle school.
  • Connected Learning Ecosystem: An interconnected community of learning organizations that form a self-supporting system. For example, a city where a student can find and access a variety of learning pathways.
