UPCOMING EVENTS:
Community Living Room - What to do with the Black Vote?
Join the community for a powerful discussion on the legacy and future of Black electoral justice.
In this Community Living Room series event, we will engage with "I Won’t Vote" (1956) by W.E.B. Du Bois, "The Ballot or the Bullet" (1964) by Malcolm X, "Give Us the Ballot" (1957) by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Fannie Lou Hamer’s (1964) powerful testimony from "Freedom Summer."
Together, we will grapple with the historic fight for Black electoral justice, the enduring power of the Black vote. How do we sharpen our consciousness around these themes and understand voting in what Saidiya Hartman calls the afterlife of slavery?

Radio Golf at the August Wilson House
Come and enjoy a captivating performance of August Wilson’s Radio Golf, brought to life by the Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Company. This unique event will take place outdoors at the August Wilson House, offering a beautiful and fitting backdrop for this famous work about politics, gentrification and the redevelopment of the Hill District.
Radio Golf is the final play in August Wilson’s Century Cycle, a series of ten plays that chronicle African-American life in the 20th century. The play is set in Pittsburgh in the late 1990s and follows Harmond Wilks, a real estate developer and entrepreneur who wants to become Pittsburgh’s first Black mayor. Wilks is determined to revive his childhood neighborhood, the Hill District, but grapples with the risk of losing the neighborhood's history.
Be sure to reserve your seats today, and spend the evening with the Hill CDC Staff and Board during what is sure to be an incredible performance. See you there!

Hill District Bi-Monthly Plans Meeting - Thursday, June 22, 5:30 - 7:30 PM via ZOOM
The Hill CDC has taken the leadership to work with City Planning and the other appropriate agencies to coordinate these planning processes. Our goal is to make sure the community engagement related to these initiatives is streamlined and efficient so that the community is properly and sufficiently engaged on each of these items without repetition that could lead to disengagement and burn out.
As a result of our advocacy, we were able to secure bi-monthly community meetings with the appropriate agencies and project managers to give you an opportunity to be informed about these different processes, how you can get engaged, and ask any questions you may have.
It is critical that you attend, as well as bring your neighbors, family, and friends. These plans will determine the future development of the Hill District.
We look forward to seeing you all!
